The history of the Wars of the Roses is being played out on a north Queensland stage throughout 2020. The first production takes place in the midst of Townsville’s tropical summer - thick, wet air, lazy thunder, cloying heat.
TheatreiNQ’s production of Othello (September 2019) reinterprets certain aspects of its eponymous character’s identity to forge a tragedy as topical now as when it was first performed.
Every year Townsville-based theatre company TheatreiNQ stage ‘Shakespeare under the stars’ in Townsville’s glorious Queen’s Park; a short walk from the beachside promenade, the Strand, and in the shadow of Townsville landmark, Castle Hill.
Bell Shakespeare's production of The Merchant of Venice has been touring Australia since July, and will finish up its season in Sydney.
The Pop-up Globe will be popping up in Melbourne this year from September - November. Previously the theatre performed to audiences in Auckland, New Zealand.
The theatre is a replica of the second Globe, which was built and opened in 1614 after the previous Globe burnt down.
